Real Change. For Good.

Get in the Game. Stay in the Game.

If you can’t seem to stick to diets and fitness plans long-term…

If you want to make long-lasting improvements to your health and happiness…

If you are tired of yo-yo dieting…

If you want to be more productive…

If you beat yourself up when you can’t do something ‘perfectly’…

If you’re a self-described ‘all or nothing’ person who usually ends up doing nothing…

I’ve been there.

And so I created an approach that will teach you how to finally take control of your life.

Welcome to Small Steppers.

My name is Sid Garza-Hillman, and through my unique Small Steps approach, I have helped people around the world achieve health and happiness by earning and incorporating real-life healthy behaviors and habits.

Thing is, I completely get the draw of quick fixes. I’ve been swept up in plenty along the way.

But…quick fixes don’t actually fix anything.

Even if they keep a promise of “10 pounds in 21 days,” they don’t tell you what to do on day 22 or beyond, and don’t actually promise you’ll keep the weight off long-term.

I’ve been working with clients for over 10 years, and I’ve never met anyone who wants to just get healthy and happy for a little while.

But I have met plenty of people who want long term health and happiness. They want to have more energy, enjoy time with family, travel, and be active for the rest of their lives. They want to BE healthy and happy people.

Diets, DVD plans, and other quick fixes can’t deliver this, and frankly, don’t even try to.

But…there is a course that teaches people how to manage ‘life improvements’ and empower them to stick to these improvements long-term.

As in, long enough for improvements to become habits.

You guessed it: Small Steppers

When I first began working with clients it wasn’t as a Small Steps coach. I was a nutritionist and trained to do what nutritionists do: find out what a client’s health goals are (weight loss, decrease inflammation, increased energy etc.), what supplements and medications they were taking, and then…make recommendations. What to eat and when.

But, a not-so-funny thing happened. Most of my clients weren’t sticking to my recommendations past about a month or two tops. I didn’t like that outcome at all.

What I quickly realized was that I was essentially handling them a diet.

I was giving them awesome information, but NOT teaching them how to effectively implement the information long-term.

And what good is useful information if you don’t use it?

In other words, what good is knowing that meditation, breath work and journaling are great for stress reduction and physical health if you don’t meditate, take deep breaths or journal?!?

And for that matter, what good is knowing how to write, play an instrument, dance, or sing if you don’t write, play guitar, dance or sing?

I believe health and happiness are in the long-term doing. NOT in the doing for a short amount of time and then quitting.

I HAD to figure out a way to help my clients establish an actual healthy eating habit.

And that’s when I fashioned my Small Steps approach.

I began working with clients in a completely different way. Before handing them my nutrition/diet recommendations, I taught them a way to use the information. I taught them a way to control how much 'healthy eating’ they took on and when.

Why?

To avoid burnout and overwhelm. But also to avoid feeling like they weren’t doing enough.

They became aware of those times they were feeling too much and too little stress, and then had tools to make adjustments as needed to keep them in what’s called “adaptive stress.”

Adaptive stress is what I call the “Goldilocks of Stress.” Just enough stress to allow and inspire your mind and body to adapt, grow, and strengthen.

Too much stress and your body and mind do just what’s necessary to simply get through it.

Too little stress and your body and mind stagnate.

Adaptive stress is the sweet spot.

And then something incredible hit me…

My Small Steps approach wasn’t just about food. It could be applied to virtually any and every area of life. Anytime someone thought “I think if I [insert new activity here] I would be healthier and happier” they could start doing it immediately and stay with it until it became a habit.

If you’re asking how, here it is: Awareness Based Habit Change (ABHC).

ABHC is the core strategy of my Small Steppers course and enables members to achieve health and happiness by incorporating and earning real-life healthy habits and behaviors.

Awareness Based Habit Change is about two things:

  1. Creating a healthy habit (eating better, exercising, creating, breathing)
  2. Infusing more awareness into your life

Let’s face it, nobody really wants to be a healthy eater per se.

We want to BE healthy people.

You can get that done by being more aware of your own life. No more phoning it in, being ruled by routine, or watching days, weeks, months, and years go by as you tell yourself “I’ll start [insert healthy or creative action here] that tomorrow.”

And so…

All this not only inspired me to write my two books: Approaching the Natural: A Health Manifesto and Raising Healthy Parents: Small Steps, Less Stress, and a Thriving Family, but..

Inspired me to create this incredibly effective (and fun) 12-week Small Steppers course.

Today people all over the world are utilizing my approach to take control of their lives and make long-lasting improvements.

No more jumping into a quick fix only to inevitably quit. Only action and accomplishment – and the health, happiness, self-confidence, and self-esteem that comes from them.

Here’s what Small Steppers is NOT:

A diet

A fitness plan

A weight-loss system

A self-help book

Here’s what Small Steppers IS:

A philosophy of living

A system you can apply to any area of your life you want to improve (including your relationships!)

The 12-week course gives you:

The best part is that’s incredibly easy to follow. I guide you every step of the way with one goal in mind…

That when the 12-weeks is up, you have the tools to continue living as a Small Stepper.

Being a Small Stepper means:

Actually knowing how important self-care is.

Understanding that being a healthy and happy human sometimes means doing less or taking a day off without guilt or remorse.

Not beating yourself up for NOT doing the things you tell yourself you should be doing. Why? Because with this approach you're always doing…

Being a better care-taker, parent, friend, boss, or child because the less stressed you are, the more you can be there for the people you love and/or work with!

If/when life inevitably gets more stressful (e.g. new job, new child, moving, tragedies), adjusting and adapting your self-care routines to continue taking care of yourself no matter what. Being a Small Stepper means never quitting!

Never being militant, rigid, a perfectionist, or an “all or nothing” person!

Being able to manage and create balance in all areas of your life.

Never having to put your family or work on hold to jump into sweeping, drastic, short-term programs that won’t empower you to create sustainable improvements to your life.

The Course...

Daily Emails

You’ll receive an e-mail first thing in the morning every day of the course. Sometimes the e-mails will expand on a particular task or exercise, be something to think about, or contain an inspirational message.

The purpose of these e-mails is to remind you of the very important work you are doing BEFORE the world (appointments, work, family, news, errands) comes flooding in.

Weekly Videos

Each week a new video will be unlocked on your member page. In these videos I not only introduce tasks, exercises, strategies, and tools, but also discuss the inevitable challenges and struggles that come from living your life in a completely new way. Being a Small Stepper means taking the ‘right’ amount of time to make a new action a habit. We often compare ourselves to social media pics, ‘before and after’ photos  or to the person at work who’s lost a ton of weight super fast on a 21 day diet and think “it’s not fair! They’re getting results way faster than I am.” But…Small Steppers know that those quick results don’t last. In fact, there’s almost a 100% chance that people on diets and other quick fix plans won’t stick with them long-term.

Small Steppers create changes THAT LAST.

The Bonuses...

Live Q&A’s

My favorite part of the 12-week program, the live Q&A’s are a great place to get your questions answered, but also to interact with other members. People quickly realize how much all of us have in common. You'll received notifications during the course when Q&A's are happening (about once a month). If you can’t make a scheduled Q&A, you can simply pre-submit your questions directly through your member page!

Members-only Chat Room (Slack)

Communicate with other members during the 12-weeks! This is a great way to share wins, struggles, and even trade Small Steps. Being part of a Small Steppers community goes a long way in continuing this crucial work…

Members-only “Why Small Steps equals Big Changes” seminar

FAQs

How does the program work?

When you sign up, you’ll receive a welcome/information e-mail with log-in info and more. Then you’ll receive your Day 1 e-mail, and the week 1 video will be unlocked on your member page. Then it’s game on. In addition to the weekly videos, you’ll receive daily e-mails – some inspirational, some thought-exercises, some highlighting different aspects of my approach. At the live Q&A's (a bonus!) you can ask me anything and everything. I'm there to guide you throughout the 12 - weeks, every step of the way. Each live Q&A is archived on your member page to watch at your leisure plus you can pre-submit questions in case you are not able to attend…In other words, there is a TON of support throughout this program

What will I learn in the twelve weeks?

Being a Small Stepper is an approach to healthy and happy living. In this twelve-week program, I’ll teach you how to live your life as a small stepper, utilizing my ground-breaking Awareness Based Habit Change (ABHC). You’ll learn to build and maintain a steps list and real-life practical tools to negotiate parties, trips, the workplace, and family as a healthy/happy person. Once you’ve completed the program, you’ll be equipped with the tools and mind-set to continue with your Small Step “practice” for the rest of your life

You’re a nutritionist, so is there a food/diet component to Small Steppers?

Yes, BUT only in so far as I teach members how to small step into food (and into fitness, creativity etc.). During the live Q&A’s, I answer specific questions about diet and fitness, but the goal of Small Steppers is to help you understand that living happy and healthy is a much, much bigger picture than just what you eat or how many calories you burn in a gym.

How much time will I have to spend on the program during the twelve weeks? Will this take over my life?

This program will definitely NOT take over your life!  The time requirement is super minimal—often no more than a few minutes per day, or more if you have the time (kind of like real life, no?). I teach people that living on their terms is about stealing moments throughout our day to re-connect, re-ground, and calm jumping back into work, family, travel, errands etc. The total time of these moments is very small, but the overall effect on your life is massive.

What makes Small Steppers different from other subscription programs that offer diet and fitness coaching?

Small Steppers and Awareness Based Habit Change is an approach to living well that can be applied to virtually any area of your life. Diet and fitness programs may or may not come later. For me, it starts with two questions most of us don’t really ever ask: Who am I really, and what does my ideal life look like? Members use this knowledge to know exactly where they want to go, then not only learn how to get there but stay there.

What is your refund policy?

I don’t want anyone in the program who isn’t happy being here, so I can offer a refund through the first four weeks of the program. To be clear—Small Steppers is about learning a new way to think and approach your life–NOT about losing ten pounds in twenty-one days or increasing how many miles you can run in the shortest amount of time possible. Incredible results DO happen, but only if you’re in it for the long haul. There are a ton of online programs offering super quick, short-term weight loss , fitness gains and the like – this just isn’t one of them. Awareness Based Habit Change is about making improvements that stick...
